After an awfully wet autumn & winter, families look to spring and beyond for hopefully some dry weather & and the opportunity for good weather for photos. It's a bit warmer, the days are longer and everyone is dreaming of those summer days. Alot of people had the same question, what are some great spring / summer locations for doing family photoshoots in the immediate Hamilton region ... so i thought a blog post would help answer those questions and get you wondering what might suit your family or style. I'm a huge lover of the growth in spring ... think meadows, cherryblossoms, carpets of flowers, and that lush overgrown look of everything flourishing.

The Meadows + Daisy Fields

I live for these ... i just love the wildness yet delicate nature of them. As you can see I have a few locations of these up my sleeve, most are best on cloudy days as its great light, or they need to be beginning or end of light (so hour after sunrise or hour before sunset) to provide that softer light - rather than harsh open sun.

The meadows generally pop up around mid October and flourish until December. January they generally start to lose the green and slowly start colouring to the browner dry grass (still lush i might add - just not that spring vibe anymore). If you are after a meadow with shade - i do have a few of these - but most of these ones are without flowers.

Spring Park Oasis

This was the location for my mini shoot's last year. I choose this location after spending the day with my daughter in the park playing in the huts and wondering jew. Its a total spring vibe, lush greenery, more indepth tones, great in the morning light in on one side and the opposite for the afternoon light.

Cherryblossoms

The beauty of these blooms is ace! These are around for literally 2-3 weeks in October ... sometimes you can get them a bit later or the hues of the trees are a bit lighter as they have started dropping their petals. This alley is great cloud, beginning or end of the light (hour before sunset, hour after sunrise) Super special as they are only out for a very limited time.

Dog Park

Great option for a morning or an afternoon shoot time ... around kids who aren't great with later bedtimes to hit the golden hour. Kids have to be ok with dogs in this area, aren't to many about however. On the edge of the Waikato river, with the lush growth of spring popping a few flowers, flowering greenery.
