Gen and Simon’s love story began in high school. Through texts, as teenagers do, eventually they started dating and trying every restaurant in Hamilton. Eight years later they married at Olive Tree Cottage in Tauranga on their anniversary. Simon asked Gen to marry him, while on a trip to Sydney, which was for celebrating friends and Gen finishing her degree. He got down on one knee in front of a water display and had Gen crying for 10 minutes and older couples clapping with glee.
Their wedding was typical kiwi fashion with DIY decor, from signage, friends as hairstylists and a cake made by Gen’s workmate (was quite some cake!!). They had a typical autumn day with 4 seasons but the gods came to the party and sunshine was had for their ceremony. Rice was sprinkled like glitter and many wahoo’s were yelled through the guests. They had the most amazing sunset – which was literally like a fairytail ending. Turns out the groommen were quite handy to have this day … i managed to drive over a curb and slash my tyre / so that was changed within 5 minutes just before everyone skipped into the reception (thanks guys!-serial blonde moment). Splurges for their day, were Gen’s dress and the media side of the wedding. Advice to couples who are about to get hitched – work with your budget and make it how you want it. Your wedding your way.
